New content on the original

The 2008 client stays exactly as it was. On top of it we add what the original never had or never finished: new decks, new lines, new rules and new rewards, all of it our own work. Nothing on your disk changes.

Raids

Raid bosses

A legend appears and the whole server fights it together. Every win against it is one hit on a shared bar. Losing costs nothing, so anyone can try again. Everyone online hears it at 75, 50 and 25 %, and when it falls, everyone who landed a hit gets the reward.

!raid shows how it stands and makes your next duel a raid duel. The last hit earns RAID BREAKER; beat all three raid characters for LOST LEGEND HUNTER.

New

New faces, new lines

Characters the original never finished now stand in the world with lines we wrote, in English and German. They appear when their raid is on; the launcher puts the lines into text slots the game leaves empty, while you play.

A returning legend · our own lines
Returning

Seventeen NPCs come back

The original shipped their lines but no decks. Each now has a deck of our own, built around what it says and tuned in simulated duels until it fits its difficulty tier. They rotate with everyone else.

Every Friday

The Friday shuffle

At midnight the NPCs move within their difficulty tier, so the first areas stay gentle and every tier is on both sides of the world. One becomes the featured duelist, and we only say where it hides: find it, and each win against it earns an extra pick; your first win of the week also brings the week's theme pack.

Stuck? !npc names it in the game.
Rewards

Packs you earn

The add-on packs the original sold for money unlock as you play: the basic set at 36 duels, then one expansion after another up to 1,200 duels, each once, as a present. The eleven theme packs come from the featured NPC, one a week.

Titles

Titles with our names

Title slots the client left unfinished get names and rules from us: RAID BREAKER for the last hit on a raid boss, LOST LEGEND HUNTER for beating all three raid characters. Every one of the client's titles now has a way to earn it.

Engine

Our own duel engine

Every duel runs on a rules engine we wrote for this client, with the cards and timing of 2008. Every card plays its full text, and fixes and updates keep coming.

Help right in the chat

!card !deckcheck !league !boss !raid !bug !idea: answers from the server, in the game's own chat. An example:

> !deckcheck

SYSTEM: The deck of your last duel (40 cards, 3 in the extra deck) is legal.

SYSTEM: Every card in it works in our engine.

> !raid

SYSTEM: Raid: the legend has 37 of 100 hits left; you landed 4. Your next duel against it is a raid duel.

Balance

Our own Forbidden & Limited list

The server hands every client its ban list, so we can change it whenever the game needs it, and we will: lists of our own, tuned over time for balance. Until the first one lands, the original September 2008 list is in force. Theme formats (normal monsters only, level 4 or lower, …) run in their own lobby, never server-wide.

Forbidden–0 copies per deck
Limited–1 copy per deck
Semi-limited–2 copies per deck
Security

Secure sign-in with one-time codes

The 2008 client keeps passwords badly, so we keep yours out of it. You sign in once in the launcher, and from then on the game only ever sees a code that works for one start.

1Sign in onceYour password goes to the server one time, over an encrypted connection. It is never saved on your PC.
2A key only you can useThe launcher keeps a sign-in key that Windows encrypts for your user account. The server stores only a fingerprint of it and swaps the key at every use.
3A fresh code at every PLAYThe server hands out a one-time code that fills in the game's login. It works for that start only and is revoked when the game closes.

World

Room for everyone

When an area fills up, the server opens a second instance of it, so more players fit in and no one is turned away at the door.

Options

Classic duel music

Prefer the older duel themes? The launcher can switch the duel music to the classic tracks the client also carries, or play all of them.

Launcher

Built for today's PCs

The right window for your screen, a picture Windows doesn't blur, crisp text and sprites, checks before you play, help when the game crashes, and a login that fills itself in. All in memory while you play; your copy of the game stays as it is.

And more

Smaller things we added

  • Our own weekly events on the client's event screens: Dorm Wars, the Swiss League, a bounty on the Gunslinger leader, the Newcomer and Sunday Cups
  • A boss duel every day, with extra life points and better prizes at the weekend
  • A Mileage Weekend at the end of every month, with double Mileage
  • An NPC steps in when nobody takes your Auto Duel within 30 seconds
  • Watch other players' NPC duels, not only their duels with each other
  • Spare copies past three turn into Mileage instead of clutter
  • A weekly shop with rare singles picked for each player
  • Structure decks for levels and duels played, and milestones where you choose the cards
  • NPCs placed by measured difficulty, so the first areas stay gentle
  • Server messages in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish
  • Rules against farming, a chat filter and player reports
  • Cards that can't play yet are flagged in the deck editor, so a duel never breaks on one

Everything on this page is our own work, added on top of the original client. We never ship or change the original game's files.
